Today we have a duel entry; a new face painting tutorial AND an update on the new creatures in the Tir na nOg Adoption center

Keeping in the St. Patrick’s day theme, I’ve got a few more ‘wearin’ o’ the green’ designs for ye ta dig your brushes into (I tried to type in an Irish accent there…didn’t quite work. I will have to work on that *ehem*)

Another design from Lisa Joy Young. I really can’t help it. She provides a treasure trove of face painting gold. This one is St. Patrick’s Day on steroids with its rainbow eyes, shamrocks, and swirls. If you’re looking for a mask…this is a good design to use. Way more involved than cheek art, so if you’re in a rush this probably isn’t your best bet, but if you have the time it’s well worth the effort.

This one I post because it amuses me. “Kiss me I’m Irish”.

And now….we move onto updates in the adoption center! As I may or may not have mentioned, the shop has been on ‘vacation’ for the past month or so due to lack of internet in my old apartment and a continued lack of it in my new apartment. Luckily though, my roommate and I are equally fed up with not having a connection, so by the end of this weekend we will be online once again. This means the shop will be open for business by next week!

This pleases me greatly, especially since I’ve been attracting new prospective families to check out the center as of late. I even made new business cards. They’re a bit time consuming, BUT I love ‘em and they do what I need them to, which is get people interested in what I create.

Lookit! GAH. They make me so happy….and speaking of new and wonderful things, it seems the Leprechauns are back just in time for March 17th! We’ve found two lads and a lass so far, but I trust a great many more will make themselves known before the week is out!

Here she is! Nameless (thus far) and decked out in nothing but green and gold. I’ve got a might bit more crafting to do, so for today…tis time to part.

As of two days ago, I am back from my little trek to Denver Colorado, to be apart of the 2010 Denver Waldorf’s Festival of Light. It was a major learning experience for me, mainly because this was the first time I wasn’t using my car to get there. I had to pack as light as humanly possible for train travel and then gather the finishing touches once I was settled into my hotel room. Granted, there was a lot of power walking around Cherry Creek trying to catch the right bus (which never happened) or a craft store of some description, but I did find the branches I needed for my display while all this was going on. They just seemed to pop up in front of me every couple of feet, which made my life LOADS easier.
I did eventually get to Joann’s fabric store, but next time ’round I definitely need to have a solid display structure in place before I do anything.
The display was on the floor with tall branches surrounding a little winter wonderland for easy viewing by those who couldn’t kneel or bend down. It was very well received by those in attendance and I even had one little girl look me right in the eye and say, “This was a good idea. You should do this next year too!”
At the very beginning, I had set out a few dolls, but I had the majority of my dolls in a bag. Well, these two girls came along and when they saw that I had an entire bag of dolls hidden away, they both asked if they could put the rest of the dolls out on the display. I saw nothing wrong with that, so I told them they could if they wanted to. The two of them went right to work and as they went about their decorating, more of their friends showed up and helped with setting the faeries out! It was awesome to watch all these very happy girls bouncing about asking each other things like, “should this one go here?” “Ooo! Look at this one!” “This one can sit in the lake with the other mermaids”.
Once they had finished decorating, they began looking for a doll to adopt. I told them I could make them one on the spot if they liked and, well…let’s just say I started doing commissions at 10am and finished the last one at 3:10pm, ten minutes after the faire had ended.
Overall it was an extremely rewarding experience for me and it made me realize the fact that whatever I do in the future…has to involve a Waldorf School or schools.

I say that with a slightly exacerbated tone, but I do love my kitten immensely. Problem is…she just chewed through my MOTHER’S $79+ power adapter for her laptop. Does she know this? No, because I only just found out myself. Is it going to have to be replaced? Oh, you better believe it.

So why am I writing a blog about this? Well, because this means my pocketbook will be in a bit of pain for a bit and because…I’m hoping to get some interest going in doll commissions. Ugh, again…I love Nims ( teh kittah…who is now biting my foot…), but I really could do without the destructive tendencies. I guess the best way to cure that is to spend a bit more quality time with her.

Speaking of commissions, I just completed a 22 doll order for a Waldorf teacher in Southern California! Phew! It was a lot of work, but I loved it and I also love becoming the ‘fairy godmother’ delivering dolls to these 21 girls and boys (the 22nd was for the teacher). These pictures below are just a sample of the order, but they give you a pretty good idea of what I did.

Oooh, happy day! The cord has been repaired and has been brought back from the electrical waste cemetery of chewed power adapters. I’ll say it again, OOOOOH happy day!

I don’t know about anyone else, but I am eagerly anticipating All Hallows Eve. It has always been and will always be my favorite Holiday. It also happens to be my ‘Five month gestational anniversary’/parents wedding anniversary, so there are multiple reasons for me to love it. I used to love the trick-or-treating part of it, but now that I am older I love decorating for it and dreaming up fun costumes. I didn’t really go all out this year like I wanted to for many reasons, but I’m saving my Labyrinth-style hybrid peacock for next year :]

This year, however….I have no clue what I’m going to do. I KNOW, I’m cutting it close. My best friend keeps reminding me of this fact and I keep waving her off while saying, ‘Plenty of time! I have plenty of time!’…eheh. Procrastination, it’s a killer. If all else fails, I do have a couple of Renaissance outfits to pick and choose from. It seems like I’m one of the few who actually enjoys walking around in public in my outfit all day! You see very few people doing that these days and it’s like…what a waste of a Holiday! Cut loose and have a little fun, would ya? Or if dressing up really isn’t your thing, let me have my fun, instead of glaring me down in the super market because I have the audacity to dress up for my favorite celebration. SHEESH.

I don’t so much enjoy the ‘scaring the crap out of yourself’ part of it, but I do like the dressing up and the magic of it. I plan on bobbing for apples, dying my drinks weird colors because I can, going through a corn maze or two, and carving a great deal of pumpkins. Tis a grand thing, this holiday.

I like to push this particular doll making technique every once in a while to see what new things I can come up with. I never know what I’ll try next, but I’m always excited to do so! Today, I am very excited to announce the addition of two new creatures to the list of beings I have up for ‘adoption’ in my shop. Just in the nick of time for Halloween, we have Siamese Twins and a Conjoined mermaid!

They were a bit more difficult to make and definitely more time consuming, but I enjoyed making them none the less. Who knows? Maybe next week I’ll try to make some other Halloween beastie.

This blog is an extension of my etsy shop, Tir na nOg Faery and Creature Adoptions.

I’ve found that there really is no place for me to share new doll making discoveries or item updates on my shop’s home page, so I’ll be using this blog to do just that. Mostly I’ll be announcing new experiments (gone right) or special deals, but from time to time I might discuss the mythology/folklore of the pieces I create as well as the Waldorf style of doll making I’ve chosen to employ. I might also host contests or give tutorials, so be sure to check back from time to time to see what new and exciting things I have floating about.

My shop website is:
http://www.etsy.com/TirnanOgadoptions

I hope you enjoy my blog…and my creations!
